Impressions on the Biology summer class in Beida
From Amy, an undergraduate student from Peking University
This is my first time to have such a special class. Before the class, I was a little bit worried about whether I could understand the lectures totally given in English. It turned out to be much better as Dr. Lai explained almost every detail as clearly as he could and most of the content was not that abstruse. I used an electronic dictionary in class to help me translate the English words that I do not know into Chinese. Thus the language problems gradually disappeared.
However there do exists some kind of language barrier between the Penn State students and me. I believe deep inside the barrier are the cultural differences. Thanks to this class, I get the chance to know and understand a different culture. The time I spent with the Penn State students was really enjoyable and unforgettable. I like the discussion part of the class. Josh, Jenna, Georgia, John, Jia and I formed a group. We talked about culture, life, education and everything we are interested in. We discussed about the papers. We worked together on the final presentation. It was really a good time being with them.
