Justin's class work continues in Beijing
After the adventures of the previous week we were worn out. I slept through breakfast and didn’t wake up until around eleven. No more waking up a 6 am, the jet lag has finally worn off. Since our recitation started at three I decided to review the previous week’s notes. While I was mostly up to date, I still had to review differential forms. What do pullbacks and pushforwards have to do with dx’s and partial derivatives? Chinese isn’t the only strange language here. After a few hours, I got a notion of what might be going on. I worked through a couple homework problems, but for some I would need to ask Ping.
We went to recitation and did examples on the board, the studying paid off. I understood how to do all the examples. We got dinner and blew some time walking around campus before class. Then it was back to work. Coping the symbols for later translation. Tensors, Lie derivatives, who knows? Soon enough 9pm came and we packed up and left. We consider going out, but decide against it. It’s been a long day. Instead we hung out in the hotel and talk until late at night. It’s a simple, but pleasant day in Beijing.
