Allen's Culinary Adventure
Today we attended the PSU-PKU math seminar. Here, we heard
lectures about the research topics which a few professors from either school
study. Many of the topics were very interesting because they showed the
connection between physics and mathematics, as well as gave a clear
representation of what research in the subject was like. Following the
lectures, we were treated to one of Peking's most famous dinners: Peking Duck.
The meal was extravagant, and there were many dishes included alongside the
duck. The most notable was the frog. I had never eaten frog before, and was a
bit unsure about it at first. Dr. Batakidis was most notably nervous, but once
everyone had tried it, he too indulged in the delicious dish. Another
interesting feature of the dinner was the head of the duck. Within the head
was, of course, the brain which a few of us including myself tried. There were
many other dishes including a soup, and a spicy vegetable dish which was one of
With bellies filled to the brim, we took our leftovers to go (and by we, I mean I). Walking back to the hotel with 8 to-go boxes filled, I knew I would be in for a week of delicious snacks.
